Book Club Rules
2. RSVP. Emergencies happen, but it is nice if I have a rough idea of how many people I can expect to attend. Also, I will likely try to bring goodies to our meetings so a head count keeps anyone from being left out. :)
3. 15 Minute Rule. The first 15 minutes of every meeting will always be our time to catch up with each other. After that, we will begin book discussion (which is my way of saying that you have about 15 minutes to arrive late before we get into the meat of our discussion). You are absolutely welcome to attend if late, but you might miss some of the discourse.
4. There will be spoilers! I will never require anyone to read the book in order to attend the meeting. But...there will be plenty of spoilers during our discussion, so please keep that in mind.
5. Bring your book. And your notes. Please. I know. It is crazy that I have to even type this, but you would be amazed how often I have seen this in the clubs I have been in.
6. Be loud and proud! You hated the protagonist?! The book sucked!? Okay! We want to hear about it and we want to hear you say it loudly. Contribution to the discussion and discourse are vital for a healthy book club.
7. Keep the space safe. Let's give everyone the opportunity to join in the discussions and to feel heard. As women, so much of the world already devalues our opinions and thoughts. Let's all agree to keep that from happening in our book club, okay?
8. Have fun!
